ESPN: LSU (Monday), USC (Tuesday), Texas (Wednesday), Oklahoma (Thursday), and Georgia (Friday) were featured on SportsCenter this week. ESPN college football analyst Kirk Herbstreit is profiling all the teams in a five-part series.

ARKANSAS: The Red team beat the White team 16-0 in the annual spring game. Defensive end Jeb Huckeba had seven tackles and two sacks. Houston Nutt said Huckeba played well in the scrimmage and a mini-scrimmage on Monday. Quarterback Matt Jones, who was rusty in the scrimmage, was 9-of-14 for 97 yards and two interceptions. Reserve quarterback Robert Johnson was 6-of-18 passing for 98 yards and one score. Tailback Dedrick Poole had nine carries for 57 yards. Receiver Carlos Ousley had six catches for 69 yards. Nutt also praised the play of defensive tackle Lucas Jackson, cornerback Michael Coe and free safety Vickiel Vaughn. He compared Vaughn to the great line of safeties in Hog history such as Steve Atwater, Kenoy Kennedy, Ken Hamlin and Tony Bua. Darren McFadden (6-1, 205), a running back from Little Rock (Ark.) Pulaski Oak Grove, has committed to the Hogs. He is considered the top player in the state. (Hawgsports.com)

The Hogs had a Wednesday night scrimmage that was dominated by the offense scoring 47 points. Jones caught a 51-yard touchdown pass from backup Robert Johnson and slam-dunked the ball over the goal post. Jones, who was 3-of-12 for 78 yards including a touchdown, led the scrimmage with 72 yards rushing. Poole rushed for 54 yards on 9 carries. (Hawgsports.com)

GEORGIA: Receiver Tyson Browning is out with a slightly fractured bone and torn ligament in his right arm. Unless X-Rays prove otherwise, he will be ready for fall drills. (UGASports.com) Freshman A. J. Bryant was moved from quarterback to receiver. Bryant would have been the fourth string quarterback. Georgia has only two receivers who have caught more than 11 passes last season. Junior guard Bartley Miller, who underwent a third shoulder surgery in February, could be back for the season opener against Georgia Southern. Junior Darrius Swain has found a new home on the offensive line. He is the No. 1 tight guard after moving from the defensive line before spring practice. (OnlineAthens.com) Sophomore defensive tackle Darrell Holmes has left the team due to chronic shoulder problems. Holmes has played in 10 games over the past two seasons. His departure leaves the defensive line very thin especially at the tackle position where the Bulldogs have only four healthy players-starters Kedric Golston and Gerald Anderson and their backups Marquis Elmore and Dale Dixon. (UGASports.com) Sophomore tailback Michael Cooper came to practice, but left again after suffering migraine headaches. Redshirt freshmen Andy Bailey and Brandon Coutu are battling for the kickoff and place kicking position. The G-Day game will be broadcast on CSS at 2 p.m., April 17. (UGASports.com)

ALABAMA: Tide coach Mike Shula has apologized to Mississippi State coach Sly Croom for taking his name off a spring football award. Shula said Croom’s name has been reinstated to the award. (Mobile Register) Safety Chris James is intent on rejoining the team when summer drills begin. He went back home to Albany, Georgia and enrolled in nearby Darton College. James blocked four kicks last year, a school record. (Bamaonline.com)

KENTUCKY: Outside linebacker Durrell White (6-3, 250) is one of the more impressive players so far in drills. He has gained 16-pounds during the offseason. Rich Brooks said Wednesday’s practice was the worst of the spring because of improper alignments, bad snap exchanges, poorly thrown passes and dropped balls. The offensive line with only two starters returning is a big concern. (Kentucky Sports Report)

OLE MISS: The Rebels had a 100-play scrimmage Saturday. Vashon Pearson rushed for 92 yards on 10 carries. Quarterback Michael Spurlock was the star of the scrimmage with 107 yards on seven attempts including a score. He was 12-of-27 for 176 yards. He threw a 48-yard scoring pass to Taye Biddle. Jonathan Nichols kicked field goals of 56 and 41 yards. Ethan Flatt was 10-of-19 for 140 yards and a score. At the mid-point of the spring, Spurlock is obviously the quarterback with Flatt and Robert Lane battling for the backup position. The leading contenders at tailback are Pearson and Alan Abrams. The offensive position that is the deepest is at receiver. (RebelGrove.com)

MISSISSIPPI STATE: Bulldog defensive coordinator Ellis Johnson told Bulldogblitz.com that the defensive line is the strongest of the three units. Coach Sly Croom has been disappointed that there have been so many quarterback-center fumbles. Croom pointed out Ron Fields contributions on the defensive side of the ball. In Saturday’s scrimmage, Fred Reid led all rushers with 72 yards. Aries Nelson completed 8-of-23 passes for 40 yards with three picks. Omarr Conner was 6-of-15 for 77 yards and one interception. Four Bulldogs had interceptions. Junior quarterback Kyle York (shoulder surgery) and senior receiver Ray Ray Bivines (hamstring surgery) have been limited to little work. Croom has suspended junior center Chris McNeil for the remainder of the spring leaving Brian Anderson as the only center on the team. (Bulldogblitz.com)

TENNESSEE: Tight end Brad Cottam (tore thumb ligaments) and tailback Gerald Riggs (high ankle sprain), Jr. are out for the spring due to injuries. Tennessee had previously lost tailback Corey Larkins (ankle), defensive tackle LaRon Harris (knee) and guards Cody Douglas (ankle) and Arron Sears (foot). Douglas might return by the end of the week. Derrick Tinsley has done more work at tailback after working at receiver. (The Tennessean) Quarterback Rick Clausen has a good grasp of the offense, but he has been inconsistent at throwing the ball. C. J. Leak has a strong arm, but needs to adjust to the fast pace of the game. Cory Anderson, who weighs 270-pounds, runs a 4.7 in the 40-yard dash, is coming on at fullback. (The Tennessean) In Saturday’s scrimmage, defensive back Jarrod Parrish had seven tackles, an interception and a tackle-for-loss. Defensive tackle Turk McBride, who has emerged this spring, scooped up a fumble and returned it 51-yards. He is now 270 pounds after coming in at 246. (Volquest.com) Cornerback Antwan Stewart will miss the upcoming season with a possible torn ACL in his left knee. Jonathan Wade and freshman Roshaun Fellows could be replacing Stewart. With Stewart out, Jason Allen will have to remain at cornerback. Brandon Johnson and Jarod Parrish are battling for the other safety spot opposite Corey Campbell. (Tennessean) Leak (13-for-23 for 154 yards) and Clausen (10-of-20 for 105 yards) continue to struggle. Sophomore receiver Jayson Swain caught seven passes for 122 yards. Receiver Robert Meachem is back at practice after overcoming knee surgery to repair a meniscus tear in his knee. Special teams were the highlight of the scrimmage. The offense is suffering from the loss of eight players who would make the two-deep depth chart. Going into spring practice, the two biggest questions were at quarterback and running back. It appears that the same questions will remain at the end of spring practice. Fulmer is not pleased with the quarterbacks after two scrimmages. Overall, the offense is fumbling the ball too much. Fulmer said Rob Smith has had the best spring of all the linemen. (Volquest.com)

SOUTH CAROLINA: In Rick Minter’s new 4-3 scheme, the interior linemen are involved in more twists and stunts than the fronts run by Charlie Strong and Chris Cosh. Andrea Gause is back at receiver after playing safety last season. He recently appeared before the new unity council because of disciplinary issues. Last weekend, 15 former USC players currently in the NFL, were invited back to renew ties and talk to the present players. Until this weekend, USC had not had the reputation of other schools that invited former players to return to the school. (The State) Quarterback Dondrial Pinkins has returned to his more unconventional grip. The Gamecocks had their first scrimmage of the season Saturday. Tailback Gonzie Gray, the No. 4 tailback, had a 75-yard touchdown run and a 43-yard catch-and-run in the scrimmage. The Gamecocks threw the ball 30 times and ran 54. (The State) Troy Williamson, Matthew Thomas and Noah Whiteside are the top three receivers. Andrea Gause, Michael Flint, and Kris Clark are right behind them. The Gamecocks will scrimmage Friday, then next Tuesday and have the spring game the following Saturday. Ike Croofoot, who is the deep snapper, has been getting some work at receiver. Crofoot ran a 4.53 in the 40-yard dash recently and he has a 36-inch vertical leap. Safety Ko Simpson has been a pleasant surprise this spring. He enrolled in January. (Gamecockcentral.com)

LSU: In last Friday’s 100-play scrimmage, all three quarterbacks-redshirt freshmen JaMarcus Russell and Matt Flynn and senior Marcus Randall-led scoring drives. Randall directed the first team while Flynn and Russell headed the second team. Randall was 3-of-8 for 28 yards and Russell was 4-of-9 for 90 yards with a score and an interception. Receiver Craig “Buster” Davis led all wide outs with five catches for 82 yards. Junior tailback Jason Spandoni led the tailbacks with 44 yards on six carries. Senior Ronnie Prude led the defense with eight tackles. Marcus Spears stood out on the defensive line. (theadvocate.com) Senior tight end Demetri Robinson has been suspended for the rest of the spring for a violation of team rules. Daniel A. Moore, who is known for his artwork in detailing the achievements of college football teams, has done a painting of the LSU win in the Sugar Bowl. (Tigerbait.com)

FLORIDA: Junior Jarvis Herring appears to have won one of the starting safety positions. Herring has gotten very serious about his role and it has showed this spring. (Gatorsports.com) In Saturday’s scrimmage, the offense dominated because linebackers Channing Crowder (groin) and Earl Everett (headache), starting tackles Ray McDonald (ankle) and Marcus Thomas (hernia) and starting safety Cory Bailey (ankle) were all out with injuries. Chris Leak (5-of-8 for 141 yards) hit Dallas Baker for a 76-yard score on the first play. Leak has improved his ball handling and play fakes on play-action passes. Backup quarterback Justin Midgett (7-of-11 for 60 yards) led a 12-play, 70-yard touchdown drive on the next possession. Leak came back in and threw a 26-yard scoring pass to Jemalle Cornelius on the next possession. DeShawn Wynn gained 58 yards on five carries before spraining an ankle. Sophomore safety Nick Brooks was hurt and had to be carted off for medical attention. He will play in the Orange and Blue game. Tight end Markell Thompson, a JUCO, has improved considerably during the spring. Jeremy Mincey, a JUCO, had two sacks Saturday and is playing well. Vernell Brown has transitioned well back to cornerback from receiver. Junior cornerback Deshawn Carter appears to be ready to play after intercepting several passes this spring. Zook is not happy with tailbacks Ciatrick Fason, DeShawn Wynn and Sklyer Thornton. Sophomore cornerback Dee Webb struggled during the scrimmage and receiver Reggie Lewis and Kenneth Tookes dropped passes Saturday. Most of the injured defensive players have returned to practice this week. Reynaldo Hill appears to have locked down the starting position at cornerback. (Gainesville Sun)

The Gator’s had a short scrimmage Wednesday. Florida’s young secondary performed well with cornerback Reynaldo Hill, safety Terrence Holmes, backup cornerback Tremaine McCollum and cornerback Dee Webb making big plays. Zook praised free safety Jarvis Herring and Holmes for having a productive spring. Linebacker Channing Crowder (groin), offensive tackle Tavares Washington (patella tendon), defensive tackle Julian Riley (high ankle-sprain) and cornerback DeShawn Wynn (foot) will likely not play Saturday. If Crowder does not play, only four healthy linebackers (Earl Everett, Howard Lingard, Travis Harris and Taurean Charles) are available for the game. Zook also complimented sophomore receiver Chad Jackson for his development.

AUBURN: Tiger coaches have released a post-spring depth chart. Defensive coordinator Gene Chizik was satisfied with the development of sophomore defensive ends Stanley McClover (the starter) and Marquies Gunn (his backup) and sophomore linebacker Karibi Dede, who is in the mix with Kevin Sears and Derrick Graves at the sam linebacker position. Juniors Travis Williams and Antarrious Williams are among the top linebackers. Freshman Montavian Collier had a great spring and Chizik considers him a future star. Junior transfer David Irons won one of the starting jobs at cornerback, but the only apparent starters are senior Junior Rosegreen at strong safety and senior Carlos Rogers at cornerback. (AuburnSports.com)

CLEMSON: Cory Groover and Trey Tate are still battling for a starting role in the defensive line. The running backs are deep and talented with Yusef Kelly, Reggie Merriweather, Brandon Nolen and Duane Coleman. Kelly, Merriweather and Coleman had 156 yards rushing in Saturday’s scrimmage. Anthony Waters had 11 tackles and Leroy Hill had eight. Charlie Whitehurst was 13-for-23 for 145 yards and one interception. (The State) Coach Tommy Bowden said junior center Tommy Sharpe, senior left guard Cedric Johnson, and senior middle linebacker LeRoy Hill have shown great leadership. Bowden admitted that the defense has spent time working on the Wake Forest rushing attack. The head coach also said his two areas of biggest concern this spring are at offensive and defensive tackle. (TigerIllustrated.com) Tim DeBeer has moved from right tackle to left tackle and will start in Saturday’s scrimmage. The coaches are trying to find two starting tackles. Receiver Chansi Stuckey made quite an impression with 60-yard reverse for a touchdown Wednesday. (The State)

NORTH CAROLINA: In Saturday’s spring game, the White beat the Blue 17-7. Running back Ronnie McGill ran for 79 yards for the White team. Jacque Lewis had 83 yards and a score for the Blue team. (Collegefootballnews.com)

GEORGIA TECH: In Tech’s second scrimmage, Reggie Ball was 8-of-21 for 101 yards. Reserve tight end Michael Matthews had three catches for 40 yards and two scores. Tailback P. J. Daniels, who rushed for 1,447 yards last year, has studied Yoga in the offseason to gain more flexibility. (Collegefootballnews.com)

MARYLAND: After only three practices, coach Ralph Friedgen had named Joel Statham as the No. 1 quarterback with Sam Hollenbach and Ryan Mitch competing for the backup job. (Collegefootballnews.com)

FSU: The Nole coaches received a raise of nearly 7%, which keeps them among the highest paid staff among ACC. Eight of the nine full-time assistants will make at least $100,000. The recent raises would put the ACC staff around No. 7 in the SEC according to a study published last June in the Atlanta Journal-Constitution. (Tallahassee Democrat) Last weekend, more than two-dozen former players led by Deion Sanders were on hand to meet with the entire team.

In Saturday’s spring game, FSU senior rover Jerome Carter returned a deflected pass for an 88-yard touchdown. The only other score was a Chris Rix 23-yard pass to Lorne Sam. Booker led all rushers with 53 yards on six carries. He had two catches for 22 yards. Tight end Paul Irons caught a 26-yard pass, the longest of the day. Rix was 5-of-14 for 77 yards with a score and a pick. Wyatt Sexton was 5-of-14 for 33 yards with an interception. Cornerback Bryant McFadden had three tackles and a pick. Leroy Smith had a tackle and couple of pass break-ups. In the overall spring awards, Rix was named the offensive MVP and Ernie Sims was the defensive MVP. Nicholson was the most dominant player of the spring (Hinesman Award). (Warchant.com)

N. C. STATE: The defense dominated the spring game in front of 15,000 fans. Sophomore running back Reggie Davis (10 carries for 75 yards) scored the only touchdown. Redshirt freshman Jay Davis, who led the first team offense, was 11-for-20 for 141 yards. He has a slight lead over Marcus Stone, who fractured his middle finger of his throwing finger last week. Redshirt sophomore Chris Moore was 13-of-27 for 71 yards. Junior receiver Brian Clark caught four passes for 74 yards. (TheWolfpacker.com)

VIRGINIA: Will Barker (6-7, 275), an offensive tackle from Haverford (Pa.) Haverford, has committed to the Cavs. Returning receivers Ottowa Anderson and Michael McGrew are the most experienced of receivers. (WagonOnline.com)

MIAMI: In Friday’s 62-play scrimmage, the defense recovered four fumbles and had 10 sacks with Orien Harris and Javon Nanton having two sacks each. Glenn Cook had eight tackles and Greg Threat was second with seven. Derrick Crudup was 7-of-13 for 64 yards and Kirby Freeman was 1-for-3 for 10 yards. Brock Berlin was 4-of-10 for 96 yards. Brian Monroe averaged 43 yards on six punts. Tyrone Moss was 10 carries for 44 yards and a fumble. Receiver Roscoe Parrish will have his knee scoped this week. (Canesport.com) Tight ends coach Mario Christobal said Kevin Everett could be the Canes best blocking tight end since Bubba Franks. Everett has a 41-inch vertical leap. (ESPN.com)

OKLAHOMA: The Sooners have agreed to a two-game deal with Oregon. The Ducks come to Norman this coming season and OU goes to Eugene in either 2006 or 2008. (Collegefootballnews.com)
