TENNESSEE: In the win over Air Force, Tennessee’s offense never punted, committed only one turnover, didn’t allow a sack and gained 412 yards in seven possessions. Quarterback Erik Ainge was 24- of- 29 for 333 yards. He completed 15 passes in a row at one point. Tennessee has over 900 yards of offense in two games and Ainge had over 600 yards passing and seven touchdowns. He had five touchdowns on the season last year. The offensive line, with three new starters, has not allowed Ainge to be sacked yet. Tailback Arian Foster sprained his ankle in the first half and didn’t return. He is questionable for Saturday’s game. The running game netted 79 yards, partly due to inconsistent blocking from the fullbacks. Receiver Robert Meachem has 297 yards in two games. Last year on the season, he had 383 yards. Austin Rogers, another receiver, caught five passes for 69 yards. Defensive back Inky Johnson is out for the year with shoulder and neck injuries. With Johnson out, Jonathan Hefney moves from free safety to cornerback and Demetrice Morley shifts to safety. Defensive lineman Justin Harrell, who has a torn bicep, will play. With Harrell out, Turk McBride slides in from end and Xavier Mitchell was start in McBride’s spot. Freshman offensive lineman Ramon Johnson (ankle) was also injured in the game. Air Force gained 408 yards of offense and rushed for 281 yards (7 yards per carry), the most given up by a John Chavis defense since the 2001 Cotton Bowl. Falcon fullback Ryan Williams led his team with 98 yards. Falcon quarterback Shaun Carey was 7- of- 9 for 127 yards. Vol safety Jonathan Hefney had 17 tackles. Florida is No. 4 in passing offense and Tennessee is No. 5. Meachem is averaging 148 yards receiving per game. Tennessee has allowed no sacks and Florida line has only two sacks. In the last 16 games between the schools, the team with the most rushing yards has won 14 times.

FLORIDA: The Gators gained 637 yards of offense in the win over UCF. This is the first time that has happened since the Steve Spurrier era. Quarterback Chris Leak, who was 19- of- 29 for 352 yards and four touchdowns, is so comfortable with the offense that he is scripting the plays. Freshman quarterback Tim Tebow led the team in rushing with 69 yards. Four receivers--Percy Harvin (99) Dallas Baker (81) Jemalle Cornelius (74) and Bubba Caldwell (51) -- had more than 50 yards in receptions. Eleven different receivers caught passes. Freshman receiver Riley Cooper played for the first time. Florida has missed two extra points and had another one blocked so far this season. The Gators had six plays that gained more than 20 yards. The offense was more of a true spread offense with shuttle passes, end around plays and receivers in the backfield. Defensive tackle Marcus Thomas returned to the lineup after being suspended and had four tackles and two sacks. Still, the defensive line only recorded two sacks. Tony Joiner and the secondary are playing very well. Florida’s reserves saw extensive playing time. The defense posted a shutout for the first time since the Mississippi State game in the 2001 season. The Kentucky game has been picked up for a 7:45 pm broadcast by ESPN. Florida is 17- of- 24 on third down conversions, second only to West Virginia. Neither team is running the ball well. Tailback DeShawn Wynn is Florida’s leading rusher with 96 yards and Montario Hardesty leads Tennessee with 128. Meyer could be only the second coach in Florida history to beat Tennessee in his first two games (Galen Hall in 1984-85). Former coach Lou Holtz told Meyer that his teams needed to be confident and tough to win on the road.

UAB AT GEORGIA: In the win over South Carolina, the Bulldog defense held receiver Sidney Rice to three catches for 31 yards. Junior defensive end Charles Johnson had five tackles including four for loss, a sack and a safety. USC had 35 yards rushing on 22 attempts. Georgia had 198 yard rushing and 189 yards passing. Starting offensive tackle Michael Turner and reserve offensive lineman Seth Watts were injured in the game. The offensive line allowed no sacks. Senior tackle Daniel Inman and reserve center Ian Smith will return from suspension this week. Center Nick Jones injured his ankle so Smith returning is essential. Freshman Matthew Stafford was eight- of -19 for 171 yards and three picks. Starting quarterback Joe Tereshinski is out for three games due to the ankle injury he sustained in the win over South Carolina. Cornerback Thomas Flowers also returns from suspension. Remarcus Brown replaced him while he was out. Tailback Knowshown Moreno will likely redshirt this season.

UAB: The Blazers beat East Carolina last week, 17-12. UAB nearly beat Oklahoma in their opener. After losing quarterback Darrell Hackney, the Blazers are playing both Sam Hunt and Chris Williams with similar results. UAB is No. 11 nationally in turnover margin. Georgia needs to be able to block defensive end Larry McSwain.

WOFFORD AT SOUTH CAROLINA: Coach Steve Spurrier said there will be some changes after being shutout by Georgia. The Gamecocks gained only 35 yards on 22 carries. Quarterback Blake Mitchell, who hurt his finger, was 16- of- 22 for 156 yards passing. Mitchell will not play because of the injury and due to his being arrested for a bar fight. Spurrier said senior Syvelle Newton will start at quarterback. The offensive line held its own allowing only one sack. Left tackle Gurminder Thind was flagged twice for false starts. He has been replaced by freshman Hutch Eckerson. Left guard William Brown is also going to be replaced by Seth Edwards. The right guard will be Garrett Anderson and Jared Cook will start at tight end. James Thompson was suspended before the Miss State game for the first four games and affected the chemistry of the line. South Carolina ran only 55 plays. Freshman quarterback Chris Smelley was 7- of- 11 for 64 yards. Defensive tackle Marque Hall left the game with a knee injury. The injury was serious enough that he is out for the rest of the year. Stanley Doughty, who has been in the doghouse, has replaced him. Several players said they had never seen Spurrier so irate after a game. The Gamecocks have only scored one touchdown this season.

WOFFORD: The Terriers have gained nearly 600 yards rushing in their first two games. However, they don’t have much of a passing game.

LOUISIANA-MONROE AT ALABAMA: Defensive back Simeon Castille had two interceptions in the Tide’s win over Vanderbilt. The Tide picked off Vandy quarterback Chris Nickson three times and held the Commodores to only 80 yards rushing. Alabama’s defense limited Vandy to three first downs and 80 yards in the second half. Leigh Tiffin hit the winning field goal from 47-yards out in the fourth quarter. Quarterback John Parker Wilson was 18- of- 29 for 207 yards with one pick and one touchdown. Receiver Keith Brown caught eight passes for 99 yards. Tailback Keith Darby ran 21 times for 65 yards. Tide turnovers kept them out of the end zone. Fullback Tim Castille fumbled on the Vandy 13 yard line in the first half. Tailback Jimmy Johns fumbled at the one-yard line and the Tide failed on a fake punt. Johns’ fumble stopped a drive that started when defensive back Rashad Johnson forced a fumble on a kickoff. Alabama tied the game on the first drive of the second half as Wilson went 5-for-5 including a touchdown to receiver D J Hall. On third- and- 18 from the Alabama 45, Wilson hit receiver Nitika Stover, who was in for Brown because his back tightened up, for 36 yards to set up the game-winning kick. Alabama was 8- of- 15 in third down situations. Alabama is plus 4 in turnover margin. In Alabama’s last six games, they have 11 field goals and seven offensive touchdowns. Both Tide coordinators Dave Radar and Joe Kines have gotten raises and extensions. Freshman kick returner Terry Grant hurt his shoulder and might miss Saturday’s game.

LOUISIANA-MONROE: Kansas barely beat ULM, 21-19. They had a chance to tie the game on a two-point conversation, but failed to complete a pass. Quarterback Kinsmon Lanscaster threw a 3-yard touchdown to receiver Zeek Zacharie. Lancaster threw for 377 yards and three scores against Kansas. Free safety Kevin Payne is an all-conference player who also returns kicks.

ARKANSAS AT VANDERBILT: The Hogs beat Utah State by 20 points. Still, the problems continue such as forced no turnovers this season and making untimely mistakes in the red zone. Tailback Darren McFadden ended up with 20 carries for 184 yards. Freshman quarterback Mitch Mustain was 9- of- 17 for 119 yards and a touchdown. Sophomore Steve Arnold is struggling with extra points and field goals. Sophomore Freddie Fairchild is out for the season after he tore his ACL in the Utah State game. Junior Weston Dacus will replace him. Senior Desmond Sims will remain at middle linebacker. Arkansas lost to Vanderbilt last season.

VANDERBILT: Linebacker Jonathan Goff has been a force with double-digit tackle games against Michigan and Alabama. The Vandy offense is No. 114 nationally. Quarterback Chris Nickson has played well this season considering his inexperience.

The two teams have only met seven times.

AUBURN: Coach Tommy Tuberville has not lifted the suspension of linebackers Kevin Sears and Tray Blackmon; both suspended for alcohol related incidents, and refuses to say when he will. In the win over Mississippi State, receiver Courtney Taylor caught nine passes for 103 yards. Defensive tackle Pat Sims had three tackles, 1.5 sacks and one forced fumble. Auburn held Mississippi State to only 161 yards. Five times in the past six seasons, the winner of the Tigers vs. Tigers has won the SEC Western Division. LSU has not won at Auburn since 1998. LSU lost at Auburn two years ago, 10-9. In last year’s game, Auburn lost despite tailback Kenny Irons running for 218 yards and the Tigers outgaining LSU by 100 yards. Kicker John Vaughn missed five- of- six field goals. This season, Vaughn has made six- of- seven field goals. Auburn has won 18- of- its- last- 19 SEC games. This is the first time since 1972 that LSU and Auburn come into the game in the top ten. Auburn has nine sacks in two games.

LSU: The Tigers have won their first two games by the same score of, 45-3. In the win over Arizona, quarterback Willie Tuituma was 8- of- 17 for only 50 yards and three picks. LSU defensive back Jonathan Zenon took back a pick 41 yards for score, his second in two games. He has three picks in two games. Arizona gained only 152 yards total. Linebacker Darry Beckwith has been un-blockable. Nine different Tigers carried the ball. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell continues to be sharp. In two games, he is 26- of- 37 (70%) for 449 yards and five scores. He has yet to be sacked. Receivers Dwayne Bowe, Craig Davis and Early Doucet are averaging 19 yards per catch on a combined 18 catches. Seven different receivers caught the ball. Offensive lineman Peter Dyakowski missed time with a hurt finger. Starting tight end Keith Zinger has been hospitalized for an unspecific stomach ailment. He will not make the trip to Auburn. True freshman Richard Dickson will replace him. LSU did turn the ball over three times in Arizona territory last week.

OLE MISS AT KENTUCKY: The Rebels offense (162 yards) struggled against Missouri in their worst showing since 1998 when they gained only 136 yards against Auburn. Quarterback Brent Schaeffer, who threw three picks against Missouri, has one touchdown rushing against Memphis and one passing score against Missouri. He is 20- of- 45 for 187 yards in two games. He’s rushed 22 times for 82 yards. Ole Miss ran for 72 yards on 28 attempts against Missouri. The Tigers had 84 offensive plays and Ole Miss had 60. The defense allowed 471 yards. Missouri out gained Ole Miss 169 yards- to- 7 in the first quarter. There could be changes on defense this week. Junior linebacker Rory Johnson could replace Quentin Taylor after making six tackles against Missouri. Cornerback Dustin Mouzon is vying for more playing time after making five tackles against Missouri.

Linebacker Patrick Willis has 10 tackles in nine of his last 10 games. Ole Miss has struggled especially with their pass defense allowing nearly 500 yards and four touchdowns in the first two games.

TULANE AT MISSISSIPPI STATE: Bulldog quarterback Tray Rutland was 12- of- 25 for 82 yards and an interception in the loss to Auburn. Tailback Anthony Dixon, playing with two broken fingers, led the Bulldogs with 69 yards on 15 carries. State has yet to score this year and had been in their opponents’ territory four times and two were after turnovers. Of 116 plays in two games the Bulldogs have run, only 16 have been in enemy territory.

TULANE: Houston outgained Tulane 621 yards to 224 in their game. Tulane quarterback Lester Ricard and receiver Preston Brown have been an effective combination.

FLORIDA STATE: The Noles rebounded in the fourth quarter with two touchdowns to beat Troy. In the first half alone, the offense was shutout, gained only 14 yards, had three turnovers, and missed a field goal. The Noles rushed for only 45 yards on 28 carries. FSU came up with three picks that virtually saved the game. Defensive back Roger Williams picked off one in the end zone. The second came from linebacker Buster Davis at the Troy 28 yard line late in the fourth quarter. FSU’s final interception came from linebacker Geno Hayes at the Troy 40- yard line. It was the first time FSU picked off three passes in one game since the Duke game in 2004. FSU quarterback Drew Weatherford was 30- of- 43 for 336 yards with two touchdowns and one pick. Receiver De’Cody Fagg had seven catches for 93 yards. Defensive lineman Paul Griffin’s season is over after he tore his ACL in the win over Troy. FSU could play a lot of 3-4 to make up for his loss. Redshirt freshman Kendrick Stewart will start in Griffin’s spot. Freshman Bud Thacker will back him up. Defensive end Alex Boston will move to the interior. Linebacker Derek Nicholson is struggling with a sprained ankle, but he will play Saturday. Defensive tackle Emmanuel Dunbar is out with a back injury and Letroy Guion has a sprained ankle and Aaron Jones re-injured his ankle that caused him to miss most of the preseason. FSU will wear black uniforms from NIKE for the BC game. FSU leads the nation in rush defense allowing 13 yards per game. FSU has 46 yards rushing on 53 attempts. Tailback Lorenzo Booker has gained 15 yards on 13 carries. Bobby Bowden has never lost two straight to his son Tommy in this series. The senior Bowden leads the series 8-5. Offensive lineman Cory Niblock will make his first start since last year’s Clemson game. He was rotating with David Overmeyer.

CLEMSON: Boston College has beaten Clemson two straight years in overtime. The Tigers ran 80 plays and had 490 yards in the loss to BC. Quarterback Will Proctor was 25- of- 40 for 343 yards. Tailback James Davis had 93 yards on 14 carries. Receiver Chansi Stuckey had 11 catches for 124 yards. Tailback C. J. Spiller had three catches for 82 yards. Safety Michael Hamlin is out for the year with a broken foot. Hamlin, Tramaine Billie and Anthony Waters have been difficult losses for Clemson. Defensive end Gaines Adams also sustained a partially dislocated shoulder so his status against FSU is unknown. Freshman Ricky Sapp might take his place. Cornerback C. J. Gaddis has a sprained ankle and is questionable for FSU. If Gaddis can’t go, then either redshirt freshman Chris Chancellor or freshman Crezdon Butler could take his place. The Tiger defense didn’t sack the BC quarterback and allowed the Eagles to convert close to 50% of their third downs. Clemson is averaging 43 ppg, No. 8 in the nation. Special teams need to improve after Clemson allowed a kickoff return for a touchdown and had an extra point blocked. Davis averages nearly five yards per carry and Reggie Merriweather averages over six yards per carry.

MIAMI: Quarterback Kyle Wright was 13- of -18 for 166 yards in the win over FAMU. His longest pass was to tight end Greg Olsen for 24 yards. Kirby Freeman was 6- of- 9 for 55 yards. Tailback Charlie Jones had 11 carries for 62 yards. Freshman Javarris James had eight carries for 75 yards. Derron Thomas had 11 carries for 109 yards. Tyrone Moss returned to action with eight carries for 64 yards. Starting left tackle Reggie Youngblood may not play against Louisville because of his sprained ankle. If he is out, the freshman Jason Fox will move to left tackle and Chris Rutledge or Chris Barney could move to right tackle. Defensive back Rashaun Jones and linebacker James Bryant did not dress out because of academics. Miami is 9-0-1 against Louisville.

LOUISVILLE: The Cardinals simply destroyed Temple, 62-0. They ran for 312 yards and threw for 359. Brian Brohm was 16- of- 29 for 307 yards. Former Cane recruit Nate Harris is now a linebacker for Louisville. The Miami Edison grad, played at a junior college after leaving Miami. Louisville has won 13 straight home games. Taking up the slack for injured tailback Michael Bush has been George Stripling, Sergio Spencer and Kolby Smith. Mario Urruita has been his Brohm’s favorite target.

BYU AT BOSTON COLLEGE: Against Clemson, tailback L.V. Whitworth led the team in rushing with 78 yards on 19 carries. BC quarterback Matt Ryan, 7-1 as a starter with seven straight wins, was 22- of- 38 for 212 yards. Linebacker Jolonn Dunbar blocked an extra point in overtime, and then Whitworth scored on a 6-yard run. Freshman Jeff Smith leads the nation in kickoff returns averaging 42 yards per return. Ryan has an ankle injury but he will play.

BYU: The Cougars beat Tulsa last week, 49-24. Quarterback John Beck threw for 240 yards and three scores. Tailback Curtis Brown ran for 125 yards. The Cougars lost their opening game, 16-13.

DUKE AT VIRGINIA TECH: In the win over North Carolina, Hokie tailback Branden Ore ran 22 times for 111 yards. Tech only had 109 yards passing. Sean Glennon was 10- of -17 for 66 yards. The Hokies intercepted four passes and blocked a punt for the second straight week.

TROY AT GEORGIA TECH: The Yellow Jackets had little trouble with Samford beating them, 38-6. Receiver Calvin Johnson caught two touchdown passes from quarterback Reggie Ball.

FURMAN AT NORTH CAROLINA: After the loss to Virginia Tech, the Tar Heels have some positives and several negatives. The positives are freshman receiver Hakeem Nicks. Receiver Jesse Holley averaged 15 yards per catch. Linebackers Victor Worsley and Durell Mapp did a much better job than Mark Paschal and Chase Rice. In the negative department, quarterback Joe Dailey threw four picks. The offensive line struggled. Depth at running back is a problem. The crowd booed the Tar Heels several times. Furman beat North Carolina at home in 1999. Cam Sexton has taken over at quarterback for Dailey.

NC STATE AT SOUTHERN MISS: One of the key plays in the loss to Akron was a failed fourth- and- one at the Zips five-yard line. Quarterback Marcus Stone was stopped short on an option. N. C. State was called for excessive celebration after they scored to go ahead by three points. The Wolfpack defense played well for three quarters limiting Zips quarterback Luke Getsey to just 8- of- 21 passing for 117 yards. In the fourth quarter, Stone was 9- of- 10 passing. N C State had 152 yards of total offense. Nine penalties for 82 yards were a factor in game. The Wolfpack also committed three turnovers. State’s passing offense has completed 23- of- 45 for just 122 yards per game.

WESTERN MICHIGAN AT VIRGINIA: The Cavs beat Wyoming, 13-12, in overtime. Virginia gained only 32 yards rushing and 174 yards passing. Cav quarterback Christian Olsen was only 12- of- 21 for 89 yards and one pick. There is some speculation that backup quarterback Kevin McCabe might replace Olsen, a fifth year senior.
