ALABAMA: Quarterback John Parker Wilson was 16- of- 20 for 243 yards and three touchdowns in the double overtime loss to Arkansas. Wilson was sacked five times, partly because he didn’t get rid of the ball quickly. He also had the longest run of the day for 23 yards. Receiver Keith Brown caught seven passes for 97 yards and D J Hall caught six for 144 yards. Brown and Hall caught 241- of- 243 of Alabama’s passing yards. Freshman kicker Leigh Tiffin missed three fields and an extra point. Tailback Ken Darby ran 26 times for 64 ineffective yards. The Tide ran 52 times for an average of 2.3 yards. The running game picked up only 118 yards against the Hog defense that was without its two best players in tackle Marcus Harrison and linebacker Freddie Fairchild. Justin Britt had three false-start penalties. Alabama has 11 penalties for 65 yards and nearly 40 minutes of possession time. Alabama ran 72 plays in the loss to Arkansas. Coach Mike Shula said he is hoping to get senior linebacker Terrence Jones and last year’s starting kicker Jamie Christensen back from injuries this week. Defensive lineman Wallace Gilberry continues to play well. He hurried Mustain into a third quarter pick and forced him out of bounds on the second play of the first overtime. Defensive backs Jeffrey Dukes, Simeon Castille and Lionel Mitchell all had interceptions. Alabama had the ball for 39 minutes compared to 20 minutes for Arkansas. Shula is 1-3 against Arkansas. Defensive end Ezekial Knight has missed practice due to dizziness. Redshirt freshman Greg McElroy has imitated both Chris Leak and Tim Tebow in practice this week.

FLORIDA: Tailback DeShawn Wynn gained 104 yards on 14 carries in the win over Kentucky. He gained 104 yards last week against Tennessee. Meyer said the team is running better than last year. Quarterback Chris Leak was 15- of- 26 for 267 yards and two scores and a pick. Receiver Dallas Baker caught seven passes for 148 yards. Meyer made the comment that Baker is a better player because he stayed in school and developed. Florida held Kentucky to only 39 yards rushing. Punter Eric Wilbur averaged 52 yards on two punts. Linebacker Brandon Siler led the team in tackles with eight. Leak set the school record for completions breaking the mark previously held by Shane Matthews. Leak has 733 completions compared to 722 by Matthews. Defensive back Ryan Smith deflected a punt in the first quarter, the 16th under Meyer. The revamped defensive line had six sacks (only four in the first three games) and 10 tackles for loss. Quarterback Tim Tebow had 73 yards on six carries. The Gators continue to struggle on place kicks and extra points. Florida has missed two field goals and failed to convert five extra points. The Gators have a negative turnover ratio, which is a concern for Meyer. Freshman receiver Percy Harvin, who is recovering from a high ankle sprain, will return for the Alabama game after playing in only one play in the Kentucky game. The Wildcats gained only 65 yards in the second half against a revamped defensive line. Florida’s secondary has not allowed the deep ball, but they do give up short, underneath passes. Receiver Nyan Boateng is probably out for the season after having ankle surgery.

AUBURN: Tiger tailback Kenny Irons ran for 117 yards and two scores in the Auburn’s win over South Carolina. Auburn ran 28 plays for 146 yards in the third quarter. South Carolina never touched the ball after the Tigers recovered an onside kick. Linebackers Steve Gandy (leg injury) and Kevin Sears (suspension) were welcomed back. Auburn and South Carolina have played only once since 1997. Auburn leads the series 6-1-1. Auburn has won 19- of- 20 SEC games.

SOUTH CAROLINA: Quarterback Syvelle Netwon was outstanding in the loss to Auburn completing 21- of -35 passes for 240 yards and two scores. Tailback Taylor Rank ran for 101 yards on 15 carries in the win over Florida Atlantic. Newton was 13- of- 20 for 216 yards and five scores. Receiver Sidney Rice caught nine passes for 161 yards and five scores. He has 16 catches for 312 yards in his last two games. The USC offensive line with two freshmen starters in Hutch Eckerson and Garrett Anderson allowed three quarterback sacks to Florida Atlantic. Right guard James Thompson returned this week after a four game suspension. The secondary has been a pleasant surprise with six picks and only two touchdowns allowed. Freshman defensive back Captain Munnerlyn made his first start last week. He has been one of the best freshmen. Carlos Thomas has made a successful transition from receiver to cornerback.

GEORGIA: The Bulldogs ran for only 54 yards on 27 carries in the win over Colorado. Quarterback Joe Cox came in during the fourth quarter to rally the Bulldogs by throwing two touchdown passes. He threw a 20- yard pass to tight end Martrez Milner to win the game with 46 seconds left. Cox was 10- of- 13 for 154 yards and no picks. Starting quarterback Matthew Stafford was 8- of- 16 for 76 yards. He fumbled once and was sacked twice. Georgia receivers dropped five passes in the first half. Richt said both quarterbacks would play against Ole Miss. Colorado had 173 yards rushing and 140 yards passing. Senior defensive tackle Dale Dixon blocked a Mason Croby 26-yard field goal in the first quarter. Tailback Kregg Lumpkin ran for 52 yards on 12 carries, mostly in the fourth quarter. Lumpkin will start at tailback. This is his first start since the 2004 season. The 14-13 win was the closest margin of victory for the Dawgs since the 23-22 win over LSU in 1999. Colorado and Georgia play again in Boulder in 2010. The comeback was the biggest during Richt’s tenure. Georgia’s Oct. 7 home game against Tennessee is set for an ESPN 7:45 pm kickoff.

OLE MISS: The Rebels ran for 26 yards on 31 carries in the loss to Wake Forest. Quarterback Brent Schaeffer was 13- of- 28 for 127 yards and an interception. He was sacked five times. Offensive coordinator Dan Werner said Schaeffer is not comfortable in the pocket and is not handling pressure well. Schaeffer has six picks and only three touchdowns in his last three games. Quarterback Seth Adams was 8- of- 11 for 84 yards. Ole Miss allowed 58 offensive plays including 53 runs that accounted for 240 yards on the ground. Wake only threw five passes. Offensively, the Rebels had 236 total yards, 26 yards rushing and were only four- of- 14 on third down. The Rebels have lost three straight games. They were flat and were beat soundly at the line of scrimmage. Linebacker Patrick Willis has double-digit tackles in 11- of- his- last- 12 games. Offensive lineman Darryl Harris, nose tackle Jeremy Garrett and defensive lineman Peria Jerry are expected to miss the game with leg injuries.

MISSISSIPPI STATE: Running back Anthony Dixon ran 19 times for 81 yards in the overtime win over UAB. Quarterback Omarr Conner was 14- of- 23 for 115 yards. State held UAB to 94 yards rushing. State is still No. 111 in scoring offense and total offense. The Bulldogs have a 21-game SEC losing streak coming into the LSU game.

LSU: The Tigers overwhelmed Tulane with 172 yards rushing and 201 passing. Freshman tailback Charles Scott ran 15 times for 101 yards. Coach Les Miles said Alley Broussard, who didn’t play, is not in the doghouse. Broussard weighs 250 and the staff wants him at 235-40. As a team, the Tigers gained 172 yards. Fullback Shawn Jordan threw and punch and was ejected. The offensive line played without Brian Johnson and Will Arnold for most of the game. Herman Johnson did well in the place of the other Johnson. Quarterback JaMarcus Russell was 17- of- 23 for 198 yards. Reserve quarterback Matt Flynn turned a fumbled snap into a touchdown. The Tiger defense blitzed 12 times in the first half. They knocked Green Wave quarterback Lester Ricard out of the game at the end of the first half. The defensive line, which is being compared favorably to the 2003 group, was stellar with 4.5 tackles for loss. Defensive lineman Marlon Favorite had a breakout game. Freshman linebacker Jacob Cutrera played well. Tulane completed only 12- of- 32 passes and two were picked. Safety Craig Steltz grabbed his third interception in four games. Safety Danny McCray, who has tremendous potential, intercepted a pass in the end zone. Miles said Justin Vincent will start and Broussard will play even though Scott played so well last week. LSU is the top scoring defense in the SEC and the second overall defense in the nation.

TENNESSEE AT MEMPHIS: Although Vol tailback LaMarcus Coker gained 146 yards on eight carries in the win over Marshall, but the rushing attack continues to struggle. He has earned the start this week against Memphis. Tennessee had only 36 yards rushing through three quarters. Quarterback Erik Ainge was 18- of -27 for 258 yards and one pick. He also had a 47- yard touchdown pass to receiver Jayson Swain. The Vol defense shut out Marshall 17-0 in the fourth quarter, which was a relief for defensive coordinator John Chavis after Air Force and Florida scored in the final period. Redshirt freshman Josh McNeil received more playing time at center. Tennessee is building a lot of depth at the defensive end position with Wes Brown, Robert Ayers and Walter Fisher. In the third quarter, Marshall had 23 plays compared to Tennessee’s six. The Vols sacked Marshall quarterback Bernard Morris three times and was intercepted once. Tennessee only beat Memphis 20-16 last year, but this is a totally different Vol offense. Receiver Jason Swain and Robert Meachem lead the NCAA in combined yardage with 734. Tennessee has scored on 19- of- 42 possessions this season. Memphis quarterback Martin Hankins threw five picks and three touchdowns in the East Carolina game.

ARKANSAS: The Hogs are off after their double-overtime win over Alabama. Tailback Darren McFadden carried 25 times for 112 yards. Freshman quarterback Mitch Mustain was 7- of- 22 for 97 yards and three picks. Free safety Randy Kelly returned a Wilson fumble 39 yards for a score. Defensive lineman Marcus Harrison is expected to have knee surgery and be out for two weeks. Running back Peyton Hillis is expected to be back for Auburn. David Williams (6-3, 240), a tight end/athlete from Little Rock (Ark.) Central Arkansas Christian committed to the Hogs.

CENTRAL MICHIGAN AT KENTUCKY: Wildcat quarterback Andre Woodson was 26- of- 37 for 208 yards and one score in the loss to Florida. He has thrown 10 touchdowns and only one pick. Linebacker Wesley Woodyard led the team in tackles with 10. Tailback Rafael Little did not make the trip due to a turf toe and bruised knee. Central Michigan battled Boston College to the end earlier in the year. UCM hung with Michigan for a half and beat Akron. Wildcat players are mindful of the loss they had to Ohio.

MAINE AT BOSTON COLLEGE: In the loss to N C State, the secondary and special teams struggled. The secondary didn’t tackle well and allowed 179 yards passing. Safety Paul Anderson was victimized on Wolfpack tailback Andre Brown’s touchdown run and on the touchdown pass that won the game. Kicker Ryan Ohliger continues to struggle with extra points. Quarterback Matt Ryan was 13- of- 25 for 149 yards. Tailback LV Whitworth rushed for 109 yards on 21 carries. DeMarcus Tyler of NC State dominated BC offensive lineman Josh Beekman.

LOUISIANA TECH AT CLEMSON: The Tigers had 324 yards rushing and 504 total yards in the rout of North Carolina. Clemson, which had seven rushing touchdowns, held UNC to only 54 yards rushing. Tailback James Davis had 95 yard rushing on 15 carries and four touchdowns. Freshman tailback C. J. Spiller had 58 yards rushing on 12 carries. Quarterback Will Proctor was 9- of- 14 passing for 134 yards. Clemson Tommy Bowden was pleased that the second team offensive line got a lot of work. Clemson is No. 1 in the ACC in total offense averaging 425 ypg and No. 1 in scoring offense averaging 41 ppg. Clemson is tops in rushing offense averaging 202 ypg and second in passing averaging 222 ypg.

GEORGIA TECH AT VIRGINIA TECH: For the second straight year, this game is played in Blacksburg. Virginia Tech won last year, 51-7. Quarterback Sean Glennon was 11-of-23 for 188 yards with one pick and one touchdown. Hokie tailback Branden Ore rushed for 152 of his 170 yards in the second half of the Cincinnati win. Ore is averaging over 100 yards per game. Virginia Tech scored 17 unanswered points in the fourth quarter to win the game. Receiver Josh Morgan blocked a punt to secure a safety for the Hokies. Defensive end Chris Ellis and Morgan are suspended for the Georgia Tech game for violating team policy. Ellis has 12 tackles this year and Morgan is the second leading receiver with 10 catches for 161 yards. Morgan’s replacement Justin Harper has never started. The same is true of Ellis’ replacement Orion Martin. Virginia Tech’s defense is ranked No. 7 nationally, allowing 224 yards per game. The winner of the game becomes the front- runner in the ACC Coastal Division. Virginia Tech hasn’t beaten a team with a winning record over a Division I school. Tech cornerback Macho Harris, Brandon Flowers and Roland Minor, who returns this week, will have to contain Yellow Jacket Calvin Johnson, if he plays despite a leg injury.

GEORGIA TECH: The Yellow Jacket offense has averaged more than 32 points per game in three straight wins. Quarterback Reggie Ball is playing better this season. He threw 19 times for 205 yards and two scores in the win over Virginia.

HOUSTON AT MIAMI: Receiver Darnell Jenkins is day- to- day with his a torn PCL. Freshman receiver Sam Shields could get his first start. Left tackle Reggie Youngblood and right tackle Tyrone Byrd are back at practice. Freshman tailback Javarris James could get his first start. Dedrick Epps has been elevated to H-back. Houston is 4-0 for the first time since 1990. The Cougars are third in the country in total offense, fifth in passing offense and in the top ten in scoring offense. The Cougars had a big win over Oklahoma State last week. Left tackle SirVincent Rogers is out for the game. He protects quarterback Kevin Kolb’s blind side. Kolb has 40 starts, 766 completions, and 10, 348 yards passing.

NORTH CAROLINA IS OFF: Clemson dismantled by UNC with 324 yards and seven rushing touchdowns, the most ever allowed by a Tar Heel team. Safeties Kareen Taylor and James Arnold had 13 and six tackles. Clemson and Furman have combined for 1,025 yards on UNC. In the first half, UNC had three first downs and two rushing yards.

FLORIDA STATE: The Noles, who piled up 55 points and 500 yards, are off after beating Rice. Tailback Antone Smith gained 137 yards on 12 carries. Lorenzo Booker had 115 yards on 13 carries. Two backs have not combined for those numbers since the 2005 Gator Bowl. In the first three games, the longest run from scrimmage was 14 yards, but Booker had a 33-yard run and Smith a 60-yard run. Drew Weatherford was 8- of- 12 for 102 yards and Xavier Lee was 5- of- 11 for 111 yards. Lee’s first five drives accumulated little or nothing, but his final two drives he was 4- of- 5 for 83 yards and a 57-yard scoring strike. Lee admitted that he was shaking in his first few drives. Receiver Gregg Carr caught five passes for 107 yards. Carr didn’t drop any passes, but De’Cody Fagg, Chris Davis and Richard Goodman did. Michael Ray Garvin will get the start against N. C. State replacing J. R. Bryant. Cornerback Tony Carter has sprained his knee and might miss the N. C. State game. Now Garvin may have to take Carter’s position and redshirt freshman Jamie Robinson may have to play for start at the other side. Linebacker Marcus Ball is lost for the season with a torn ACL. Freshman Daron Rose played last week.

N C STATE IS OFF: The Wolfpack beat BC with 8.5 seconds left when receiver John Dunlap caught a 34-yard Daniel Evans touchdown pass. Evans making his first career start threw for 179 yards. N. C. State had four first downs and 107 total yards at half and nine first downs and 213 yards in the second. Three backs have already run for over 100 yards on State.

MARYLAND IS OFF: The offense struggled again against Florida International winning only by four points. Quarterback Sam Hollenbach was 17- of- 30 for 158 yards, with two scores and a pick.
