South Carolina freshman quarterback Stephen Garcia has a sprained knee that will limit his mobility for the next several weeks, but he should be fine for fall drills. He sprained the knee due to overuse. Garcia has also been accepted into a diversion program that would clear two earlier misdemeanor charges (public drunkenness and injury to personal property) if he completes the program. Zac Brindise, the younger brother of former Gator quarterback Noah, is walking on at South Carolina. Brindise, who is from South Fort Myers (Fla.) High, turned down several scholarship offers from smaller schools such as Jacksonville University and Charleston Southern. Patrick DiMarco, the nephew of PGA Tour golfer Chris DiMarco, who is a Gator grad, is one of the freshmen reporting to South Carolina. DiMarco, who played five positions last year, is a fullback from Lake Brantley High.

Georgia has commitment No. 17 from Marcus Dowtin (6-2, 215), a linebacker/running back from Fork Union (Va.) Military Academy. Maryland, Michigan, Nebraska, Rutgers, Virginia, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Marshall and Clemson have offered him. He will likely play linebacker at Georgia. Kicker Brandon Coutu is totally healthy after healing from his hamstring injury last season. Coutu, who has connected on 81% of his kicks, has four of his eight misses from 50 yards and longer. Bulldog coaches are certainly not overlooking Oklahoma State because signs are everywhere that mentions the opener.

Arkansas defensive lineman Donnell Sanders, who redshirted last season, was arrested Saturday on disorderly conduct, public intoxication and third-degree assault charges. He was booked around 4 a.m. last Sunday morning. Basmine Jones (6-0, 195), an athlete/receiver from Warren, Ark., has committed to the Hogs. Minnesota, Ole Miss and Tennessee have offered him. Quarterback Casey Dick appears to be healthy after struggling with a back injury last season.

Florida offensive lineman Ronnie Wilson has been suspended for the 2007 season after he fired a gun in the air trying to intimidate a man during a disagreement. Running back Brandon James has been suspended for the first game of the season after being charged with buying less than 20 grams of marijuana. Defensive line signee John Brown is the only freshman who has not reported. Lakeland coach Bill Castle said Brown is finishing his class work and will hopefully be able to report in August. Former Gator Avery Atkins was arrested Monday in Ormond Beach for possessing crack cocaine. This was his fifth arrest since the beginning of 2006. Atkins was found dead in his car parked at his aunt’s home Thursday. A report from the Orlando Sentinel said Atkins had been talking as recently as last week about transferring to Valdosta State.

The Atlanta Gator Club is asking the state department of revenue to make a car tag with a Gator theme. They are looking for 1,000 Gator fans in Georgia willing to put tags on their car. Senate pro tem Eric Johnson sent an amusing letter to the department of revenue commissioner saying among other things that a tag can’t be issued to a group of alumni that have more national championships than IQ. Florida has won 15- of- 17 against Georgia.

Alabama officials have sent a letter to faculty and staff that half the requests for football tickets have been denied due to demand. Around 9,300 tickets were requested and 4,800 were denied.

Auburn defensive end Quentin Groves has been named to the Hendricks, Bronco Nagurski and Chuck Bednarik award watch lists.

Clemson has 15 signees who have enrolled in classes. Three members—receiver Markish Jones, linebacker Stanley Hunter and Miguel Chavis—have yet to qualify. Chavis and Hunter are projected to qualify, but Jones could end up in a junior college or a military prep school.

Miami quarterback commitment Jacory Harris has been invited to the National Elite 11 camp in California. Cane receiver Darnell Jenkins has cleaned up his appearance cutting his dreadlocks and his beard. Freshmen receivers Kayne Farquaharson and Daniel Adderley have been impressive in summer 7- on -7 action. Dolphin Stadium vs. Orange Bowl: Dolphin Stadium officials have offered a 25-year deal. A big question to answer is what does the city of Miami do if there is cost over runs?

Ramon Buchanon (6-1, 195), a linebacker from Palm Bay (Fla.) High, has committed to the Canes. Auburn, Clemson, Florida, FSU, Georgia, South Carolina and Tennessee among other schools have offered him. Aldarius Johnson (6-3, 195), a receiver from Miami (Fla.) Northwestern, has not committed to the Canes as he previously predicted. Johnson said Miami has a slight lead over Florida and LSU. In previous interviews, Johnson said the Canes had a large lead on any other schools. He said his parents told him not to rush his decision.

The NCAA is reviewing the text message ban because 47 schools used their override votes to appeal the ban. NCAA officials never took the time to investigate the issue.

Boston College is recruiting Tommy Streeter (6-6, 200), a Rivals100 receiver from Miami (Fla.) Northwestern, the defending state champ. He has offers from Minnesota, Ole Miss, North Carolina, South Carolina, and UCF. Florida is a school of interest, but they have not offered him.

Florida State offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher said in a recent interview that he is evaluating everything that quarterbacks Drew Weatherford and Xavier Lee do from their learning the new scheme to work in the weight room. He is in no hurry to name a starter before the Clemson game. Zach Hillery (6-4, 315), an offensive line signee from Chatham Hargrave Military Academy, said he has qualified academically. He will not enroll in summer school, but will be in attendance for fall drills. Corey Surrency (6-5, 210), a receiver from El Camino CC in Calif., has interest from Florida State. The Miami native, who dropped out of high school and ended up earning his GED, was playing in a competitive flag football league when a coach from El Camino showed some interest in him. Surrency, a Colorado verbal commitment, has offers from Oregon, Oregon State, West Virginia, Arizona and Cal. Last season, he made 30 catches for 613 yards.

Southern Miss recruited and signed Miami (Fla.) Northwestern Antwain Easterling after other schools backed off him when he was involved with having consensual sex with a 14-year old girl. Easterling was allowed to enroll in a pre-trial diversionary program that after 26 weeks of counseling allowed him to avoid trial.
