First team free safety Matt Harris led the defense with 10 tackles and linebacker Ryan Powers had nine. Arkansas receivers said they have trouble catching passes from quarterback Ryan Mallett because he throws so hard. The receivers have also commented on the fact that Mallett can squeeze the ball into tight spaces. Hog officials are removing Texas from the 2009 schedule in order to play Texas A & M.
OLE MISS: This Saturday is the Grove Bowl in Oxford. The defense dominated Saturday’s scrimmage. Quarterback Jevan Snead was 10- of- 22 for 117 yards and two scores. ACC FOOTBALL
FLORIDA STATE: One of the real concerns for FSU is the lack of depth at defensive tackle. Going into this year’s opener, the Noles may have only four defensive tackles (Emmanuel Dunbar, Kendrick Stewart, Dumaka Atkins and freshman Moses McCray). Dunbar has lost down to 280 pounds, easily the lightest since joining the team. Letroy Guion’s early departure for the NFL, Ryan McMahon’s move to the offensive line, and likely suspensions of Budd Thacker, Paul Griffin and Justin Mincey has left few players. Running back/receiver Preston Parker has returned from a groin injury. Coach Bobby Bowden said Saturday’s spring game will be the offense vs. the defense due to a limited number of players.
In the recent half scrimmage, the offense gained 300 yards and four touchdowns. The offense didn’t have a turnover. Both quarterbacks completed over 50% of their passes. Quarterback Christian Ponder, who has a MCL sprain, was 7- of- 11 for 112 yards and D’Vontrey Richardson was 5- of- 9 for 77 yards. Tailback Antone Smith carried eight times for 62 yards. Parker had a 49-yard play in the scrimmage. Tight ends caught three touchdowns (Caz Piurowski caught two) during the scrimmage and coach Bobby Bowden told the media to emphasize the point.
The defense failed to force a turnover and allowed more touchdowns than stops. Safety Darius McClure was carted off during the scrimmage and Dunbar limped to the sidelines with a knee injury. Offensive coordinator Jimbo Fisher allowed Richardson to be hit during the scrimmage something not done in maybe a decade since quarterback Dan Kendra tore an ACL.
GEORGIA TECH: There were 14 fumbles (eight on pitches and two on quarterback/center exchanges) in Saturday’s scrimmage. Coach Paul Johnson said there might have been 70 missed assignments on offense. Quarterback Calvin Booker ran the first team offense since Josh Nesbitt was nursing a groin pull. Tailback Jonathan Dwyer ran 92 yards on 15 carries.

He has a 550 pound squat (No. 2 on team), 375 pound clean (No. 1), and benches 380 (No. 9). He has a 38-inch vertical leap. As a team, the average squat is 409, the average clean is 217 and the average bench is 308. The last time Miami won a title, the averages were 411 squat, 279 clean and 320 bench. The 40-yard dash time will be measured next month. Receiver Sam Shields won last year with time of 4.26.
SEC HOOPS
ALABAMA: Point guard Rico Pickett has been suspended because of violations of team rules. He and Justin Tubbs are going to transfer.
