Jaguars Summertime 2010
To get down to the 80 man roster the Jaguars released six players including veteran defensive end Reggie Hayward.
The last few years Hayward has been out with injury, including nearly all of last season after breaking his leg in the opener. He was productive in the first year with the Jaguars with 8.5 sacks but the numbers dwindled from there.
I've mentioned on the air that our relationship soured on Hayward in the last couple of years. In his first training camp with the Jaguars, one of my daughters was interning for me during the summer and caught Hayward's eye as he left the practice field. I joked with him about it, saying, "Careful, that's my daughter!" He was kind of surprised and came up with a good answer "But I have a good job." We laughed and had a good relationship for a while.
But two years ago he no-showed as our guest on the End Zone, twice with no explanation or apology. When he did show up at 6:59 for a 7pm show the following week, the first words he said to me were, "Where's my X-Box?" Since we gave an X-Box to our player-hosts each week.
That didn't sit right with me and after the show Hayward grabbed his X-Box and walked out the front door.
So that's how our relationship soured.
The team is still 11,000 tickets short of a sell out for the pre-season opener with six weeks before the Miami game here.
The team did put single game tickets on sale Saturday, July 10th for both of the exhibition games.
